This week at The Hop Pole Inn we set a new record attendance with 11 (count 'em, eleven) gamers playing a variety of games.
The first game featured in the slideshow above was newcomer City of Iron, a very solid Euro-type game all based around players competing to own the most of lots of different resources. Each player can buy civil cards (providing actions such as tax collecting or exploring) or military cards (there is an aspect of defeating towns for rewards). They then erect buildings which reward the player in different ways, such as providing you with 3 turnips each turn; obviously this is great news if you're going after victory points and income for having the most turnips. New cities will also need to be founded to make room for yet more buildings! Aaron claimed victory with some impressive endgame scoring, I secured second place (with only minor accidental cheating) and 'Old' Neil beat out Colin for 3rd place.
Meanwhile, 'Princess' demonstrated his exceptional ability to win in virtually any game that he plays sealing a comfortable victory in Lords of Waterdeep due to his supreme collection of buildings earning 6 victory points apiece.
Peter M then introduced Simon, his latest victim, to the world of Android: Netrunner (no Power Grid this week sadly). Scoreless in the first 2 games, Simon got close in round 3 and narrowly lost out 7-5.
After a quick game of Red7, 4 of us made an early exit leaving Colin, 'Bean counter', 'Young' Neil, Simon and 'Princess' to have a first play of Bang! the dice game.
