Bloggin the Blog, brought to you by Neil Curtis.
Wednesday 4th November was another FAB night for the Bromsgrove Board gamers in their new venue of the Ladybird Inn. Back this week in the dining room behind the bar in case you are looking for us.
This week we were joined by two newcomers in the form of Phil and Ben. So David, Phil and Pete H all went for a Roll for the Galaxy. They were then joined by Ben for a Stone Age: in which game Pete was soundly clubbed into last place. Seems our newcomers have already cottoned onto one of the unwritten rules of Bromsgrove Board Gamers: make sure Pete loses. Quite impressive since Pete was the only one to have played the game before.
Meanwhile on table two Colin, Pete M, Neil and Jon faced the Hood in a game of Thunderbirds. Designed by Matt Leacock this cooperative game drew comparisons with Pandemic. (I can't comment having never played it - I know! never played Pandemic - how did I get this job?) We moved thunderbirds around the board, getting the right people and vehicles and machines into the right parts of the world to solve catastrophes and, despite Colin's dice throwing disasters, and Jon's efforts at blowing up our lovely thunderbirds, we saved the world from the evil Hood. Whilst not a game that stands out in terms of its mechanics, the theme gave us lots of opportunity for banter and fun.
We then finished off the evening with a round of Love Letter: Hobbit Style.
Gamer of the week goes to Phil for an impressive score of 199 in Stone Age.
